The Certification Process

The certification process

Protected Harvest Certification is a multi-step process:

  1. Application – a Word or Excel document will be emailed along with the Standards and Certification Manual
  2. Self Assessment – is done on the SureHarvest SMIS online site
  3. Audit and On-site Inspection – through a third-party certifier

Farmers and Handlers applying for certification must complete questionnaires pertaining to their production and handling practices, participate in an on-site inspection of his or her operation and provide access to necessary support documentation.

Applicants pay an administrative fee to Protected Harvest that also covers the cost of site inspection and associated travel expenses. Rates are determined according to location, crop, and acreage; please inquire.
